OUR CURRENT WORK

ADVOCATING FOR THE STOP CORPORATE CAPTURE ACT (H.R. 1507)
The Stop Corporate Capture Act offers a comprehensive blueprint for modernizing, improving, and strengthening the regulatory system to protect the public more effectively. It would level the playing field for all members of the public to have their views accounted for in regulatory decisions that affect them, promote scientific integrity, and restore our government’s ability to deliver results for workers, consumers, public health, and the environment.

ORGANIZING AGAINST THE CONGRESSIONAL REVIEW ACT
The Congressional Review Act (CRA) allows Congress by a simple majority vote in both chambers — with limited debate and no possibility of a filibuster — to overturn recently issued regulations, so long as the president does not veto the resolution of disapproval. CSS opposes the CRA itself as well as resolutions of disapproval striking down regulatory safeguards.

DEFENDING CHEVRON DEFEREENCE
When Congress delegates authority to a federal agency to implement a law, but the law is ambiguous, Chevron deference requires courts to defer to the agency’s interpretation of that law so long as it is reasonable. Overturning Chevron deference would give more power to judges, while weakening agencies and their experts. It could threaten countless health, safety, environmental and market safeguards that Americans expect and rely upon.

DEFEATING ANTI-REGULATORY LEGISLATION
Corporate-friendly lawmakers have put forth a series of legislative proposals that would bury federal agencies under a host of new procedural and analytical requirements and paralyze their work. Other measures would upend fundamental principles of administrative law that form the basis of our system of public protections. If even one these bills were to become law, our food, air, water, homes, workplaces, and pocketbooks – not to mention our economy – would be in serious jeopardy.

FIGHTING FOR A CLEAN BUDGET
Every year, Congress must pass a set of 12 appropriations bills to fund our government. Throughout that process, unscrupulous lawmakers try to sneak harmful policy riders into the bills as special favors for big corporations and far right extremists. These measures are wildly unpopular, have nothing to do with funding our government, could not become law on their own merits, and must be removed from any final package. Hundreds of organizations have come together under the umbrella of the Clean Budget Coalition to oppose poison pills and other toxic amendments in the annual spending bills. We’re calling on Congress to pass clean FY 25 spending bills by the September 30 deadline that fully fund the programs and services we all count on.
