Busy But Still Want to Fight DeVos’s Proposed Title IX Rules? We Got You.

By Elizabeth Tang, National Women’s Law Center

You already know that Betsy DeVos’s proposed Title IX rules on sexual harassment are absolutely horrendous. But sometimes it can feel overwhelming with everything going on in this administration—how do you find the time to stay hydrated, keep your grades up, impress your boss, meal-prep, do your taxes, love your friends, love your family, love yourself, … and support the Resistance?

That’s why we created 3 easy options for you to choose from, depending on how much time you can spare:

  • (30 seconds) Submit a pre-written comment—it just takes 2 clicks! Do it while you’re waiting in line for your coffee. Or on your bathroom break (yes).
  • (5+ minutes) Write a unique comment using our easily customizable Sample Comment and Comment Guide, which includes common-sense arguments, legal arguments, and data to explain how the proposed rules would harm students and schools. Squeeze this in before bedtime or while you’re procrastinating on a school or work assignment.
  • (1+ hours) Throw a postcard-writing party (with snacks! and music!) to slow down the rulemaking process by clogging the Department of Education with handwritten comments that can’t be machine-read. If you need postcards, you can order pre-addressed postcards here. There’s a long and wonderful tradition of engaging in a day of service on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (Monday, January 21, 2019), and defending students’ civil rights under Title IX is a perfect way to give back to your community!

Remember, the deadline is January 28, 2019 at 11:59pm Eastern Time.

Thank you so much for taking the time to protect students from sexual harassment. We at the National Women’s Law Center love and appreciate you!!
